Yercaud is located in Salem district in the state of Tamil nadu, India and it is a hill station located in the shevaroy hills of the eastern ghats region in the north part of Tamil nadu state and this hill station is considered to be as ooty hill station located in Tamil nadu and one can view the various greenery land scapes in this region and presently it is famous as favorite tourist destination among Indian tourists as well as foreigners and the people live in this place speak Tamil language.
The word Yercaud literally comes from “Yeri” means Lake and “kaadu” means forest and this hill station is popular for coffee and orange plantations. This hill station also surrounded by large number of flora and fauna and the major crop cultivated in this hill station is coffee. According to the history in the year 1820 the coffee plants from Africa country brought to this place by M.D Cock burn. The locals in this place depend on coffee crops as they cultivate and these coffee leaves or nuts are send to the local factories and these are purified as good powder and this are collected in packets or bottles and they are purchased by local shops or exported to the different parts of India as well as to different countries.
The various things are found in these hill station surroundings such as teak, silver oaks, and sandal wood. The variety of flora and fauna included in this place and various wildlife such as foxes, mongooses, snakes, squirrels, swallows, bulbuls and kites and sparrows are found in this place. The climatic conditions in hill station never change because almost cool climate through out the year but very cool climate because in winter season the climate falls to minus degrees in this hill station. The birds come from various parts of India and also various countries seasonally to this place because the large number of food and water provided in this place.
The various other attractions in this place include Yercaud lake which is surrounded by the beautiful gardens and well wooded trees, and killiyur falls which are beautiful to see one can take the bath near the water fall and water flows from 27m high and the servaroyan temple is located in this place and the large number of devotees visit this temple and worship lord servaroyan and bear’s cave is located in Norton’s Bungalow which is considered as the abodes of God murugan and Trekking in yercaud is another major attraction which is the best trekking spot in this region and various trekking clubs are there in this hill station.
